Grace in Community

It has now been three weeks since Custom Ideation was the subject of bank fraud. If you missed that story, you can read about it here: https://www.customideation.com/blog/i-was-robbed-bank-fraud.

In the Hard Moments

I wish I could say by now the money had been recovered, but the investigation is still underway. While I’ve done my best to stay positive through this ordeal, I would be lying if I said there haven’t been some low moments along the way. And yet, almost miraculously, those moments seemed to be met right when someone sensed I needed a lift. To me, that is the heart of community.

What Sits at the Heart of Community

It’s the support, the encouragement, the hugs, the surprise lattes, and the understanding extended without question or judgment. It is people showing up in quiet and meaningful ways, reminding you that you are not carrying something hard alone.

Why Relationships Matter So Much

Some support is naturally built into family and friendships, and in many ways, expected. But witnessing the grace and empathy of our clients and fellow business owners has been especially moving. Realizing that the work we have done to build strong relationships within our community has led to this outpouring of care reaffirms for me why I do what I do and what is fundamentally at the heart of Custom Ideation.

It’s people. It’s relationships, kindness, support, empowerment, and trust.

When Support Comes Back Around

We come to this work believing that relationships and strategy aren't separate, and do our best work by building familiarity, trust, and momentum over time. We are often the ones offering encouragement, guidance, and clarity to help our clients move forward with confidence. This time, though, they were the ones offering that to me, and it has been humbling in the best possible way.

A Reminder of What Really Matters

Rather than breaking me down, this experience has reminded me of the strength, resilience, and steadiness that community creates. Sometimes grace comes from the very people you’ve worked so hard to serve well, and sometimes it arrives right when you need it most.

If there is one thing I would leave with you, it’s this: when someone in your circle needs a lift, offer it. Remind them they are seen and supported. Remind them that in community, there is understanding, and the grace we cannot quite give ourselves. It made such a difference for me. I hope it will for someone in your circle, too.
